Meet the Interim Provost

The Augustana University Office of Academic Affairs is led by Interim Provost Dr. 乔约翰逊. Johnson joined Augustana in 2003, teaching courses in political philosophy, American political thought, 政治 & literature and Asian 政治. He was named interim provost by President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin in February 2023, following the announcement that Provost & Executive Vice President Dr. Colin Irvine would be leaving Augustana at the end of the academic year to assume a new role as president of Concordia College in Moorhead, 明尼苏达州, 7月1日. Johnson received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, where he served as a lecturer on government. In 2010-11, he was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in American studies at the University of Marburg in Germany. From 2013 to 2016, he was appointed Augustana's Stanley L. Olsen Chair of Moral 值. The primary focus of his research is 18th and 19th-century American political thought. Johnson is the author of Beyond Practical Virtue: A Defense of Liberal Democracy through Literature (University of Missouri Press, 2007), in addition to numerous articles and book chapters.

Augustana University is proud to announce that six of its students have been awarded Fred C. 和J. Marie Christopherson 奖学金 for the 2024-25 academic year. The recipients of the Fred C. 和J. Marie Christopherson Scholarship are recognized as students who are committed to the university, respected by their peers, have a strong work ethic and a solid character.

Augustana University is excited to announce that its eighth annual 给一天 will take place on Friday, May 10 — a 24-hour fundraising event that encour年龄s alumni, 父母, 工作人员, 教师, 教练, administrators and friends to “给 Boldly.”

In their nearly month-long trip, Augustana University students learned how food security, 教育, health systems and policies impact the welfare, decision-making and resiliency of the people in Kenya. They did so by immersing themselves in the local communities they visited. And, in turn, they made authentic connections.
